06.03.2009
I paired up my fifes and opened the divider slightly so both birds can see each other, not much going on but very early days yet
13.03.2009
I have 3 pairs in total and I removed the dividers today, Green Cock fed hen straight away and 2 pair fighting! This is the norm. Will keep a close eye on them.
15.03.2009
Added some nesting materials, Hens seemed interested as do the Cocks, Cocks birds now in full singing mode.
18.03.2009
Fawn hen has made a nest. Yellow Cock feeding Hen but to me she doesn’t look ready to go to nest, as do the Yellow Hen so both Hens have been put into my indoor flight, I will keep them there for about 10 days.
26.03.2009
Fawn Hen finished building her nest and that’s it, no sitting in it and no eggs, Cock bird still feeding her, haven’t seen any treading going on so the Fawn hen has gone into the flight too.
31.03.2009
The Fawn hen is back in with the Green cock, feeding took place straight away and she has started building a nest only this time its on the floor!! I’ve remove the nest from the floor and offer her 3 different nest pans, adding one separately she finally took to the last one, a wicker type I offer my British. Last year she built in a normal nest pan, what’s changed this year I do not know!! I was feeding all my birds meal worm but some of the fifes and British weren’t taking to them so I offered pinkies….my god what a difference!! Birds reacting totally different, all pinkies gone with in minutes.
02.04.2009
Yellow Hen back with the White Cock, He fed her straight away and then I notice she had a bad leg, for some reason her split ring embedded into her leg! it looked really sore. Nick was with me at the time so with his help we got the ring off!! The Cock bird tried treaded her but he didn’t get far, I will keep a close eye on her leg.
04.04.2009
The Fawn Hen is sitting 2 eggs so I’ve removed the Cock and put him with a Blue Hen I have, she has started to nest build. I have a nice spare Yellow Hen in a cage and I’m hoping I can breed her with the White Cock bird and hopefully show the young this year, that’s my aim anyway.
05.04.2009
The Fawn Hen is sitting 3 eggs, the 3rd laid today. I messed up my dates, the Fawn was back in with the Cock on the 29th not the 31st Lots of treaded going on between the White Cock and Yellow Hen, she has nearly finished building her nest.
18.04.2009
The Fawn Hen eggs are full and due any day now. The Yellow Hen and White Cock have 4 eggs and they are full, the Blue Hen and Green Cock have 3 eggs and they are full. I have a Yellow Cock and White Hen ( my young Hen from last year) have been separated, he is feeding her all the time but that’s it, she is not in Con’d yet so hopefully by separated them this will bring her on! If they do breed they should throw some nice quality young. The White Cock has been removed from the Yellow Hen and put with a Yellow Hen from last years young, they were fighting quite a bit but now seem to have bonded a bit, if they do breed they should throw some nice young.
29.04.2009
Well the Fawn hen has 5 chicks and are doing really well, I put the Cock back in with her as she had 5 chicks. The Blue hen hatched 3 chicks this Monday (27.04.2009) and is feeding really well. The Yellow Hen was due to hatch the same days as the Blue Hen but she was sitting Dead in the shell, I had 3 rounds off her last year so was a bit gutted. I took the nest away and now I’ve re-added it and she has built a nest so hopefully her 2nd round will be ok. The White cock I put with last years Hen turned out to be last years Cock!! He is now other at Nicks. My white Hen and Yellow Cock are still separated I will place them together again this weekend .
